Who doesn’t love superheroes?! They’re amazing! From being able to fly to having super strength, superheroes are just plain AWESOME!
Children LOVE our Superhero Letter Rescue activity! I can’t stress that enough! They LOVE it! There are so many ways that you can use it to help reinforce letters. Some of the awesome activities were even developed by children themselves.
The superheroes come with three different skin tones with all different hair colors and styles for boys and girls. We’re all about DIVERSITY! The superheroes all have an uppercase letter on the front of their clothes. The capes come in uppercase and lowercase letters.
We started by printing and laminating the superheroes and capes. We then cut the capes out with a paper trimmer and hot glued them to clothespins with the uppercase letter on one side and the lowercase letter on the other. This idea not only saves clothespins, but it helps children IDENTIFY the uppercase and lowercase letters that go together.
To start our Superhero Letter Rescue activity, children will fly the capes to the superheroes that have the matching letter on their front and clip the clothespin to the superhero card. I always start by having children match the uppercase letters. If your child gets overwhelmed by matching all 26 at once, start them with a smaller number. You could work on A-E first and slowly add in the other letters.
My sweet little niece had a BLAST playing with the superhero cards! She was going through all of the cards and telling me the letters on the front and what the superheroes looked like. She was even making them fly through the air and showing her friends how awesome they were!
This cute little boy couldn’t wait for his turn with the superheroes! He started out by finding all of the boy superhero cards and matched the capes to those first.
He then went and got paper and a marker on his own and began to write the letters from the superhero cards he had matched. I was so impressed! He came up with this idea all on his own!
